    Locomotion Telemetry

    Locomotion telemetry is the stream of position, orientation and movement-mode events that describes how a user traversed a virtual environment.

    It is the backbone of every spatial heatmap, path visualisation and comfort signal. Gossip Analytics normalises locomotion across teleport, smooth, room-scale and seated modes so comparisons stay valid across hardware.

    Because locomotion behaviour depends heavily on the movement mode used, XR analytics platforms have to tag every sample with mode metadata. Otherwise, aggregating locomotion across sessions produces misleading heatmaps — for example, a spike of density at teleport landing points that a designer might mistake for a spatial preference.

    Why it matters

    Locomotion is where most XR UX problems surface first: too many teleport nodes, an unreachable region, a corridor that everyone avoids. Locomotion telemetry is the raw material for the diagnostics that let studios ship maps and levels that people can actually navigate.

    Example

    A puzzle game shows a heatmap concentration in the corner of a room. Locomotion telemetry reveals the pattern is teleport-only: users teleport in, look around, teleport out. Smooth-locomotion users never enter that corner. The team increases the teleport arc's reach so the room is fully explorable in smooth mode too.
